There’s nothing we love more than discovering a great fishing spot to take our Sea-Doo for a day. PWC fishing is becoming quite popular, and for good reason. It is more practical, efficient and more agile than a large boat. Now that the weather's warming up, we wanted to share with you our top three PWC fishing locations, right here in the South Island.
Lake Wakatipu
First up on the list is for those who love fishing with a view. Lake Wakatipu is located around 4 and a half hours from our dealership, but it’s definitely well worth it. Besides skiing around the luscious green mountains, you’ll have the chance to catch either brown or rainbow trout as well as salmon! To maximise your fishing opportunities, make sure to use the Garmin EchoMap Plus 62CV Fish Finder.
To start your PWC fishing journey, there are
boat ramps at locations;
- Kingston
- Kelvin Heights
- Frankton Marina
- Sunshine Bay
- Glenorchy
Lake Onslow
Next up is Lake Onslow, located around 4 hours away from our dealership and is known as the best fishing location in Otago for brown trout. During the warmer months, fish are known to practically jump out to you! Dry fly fishing is extremely popular for this reason, which is perfect to do from your Sea-Doo. This location is known to be very weedy, however, you can ride worry-free thanks to the latest Intelligent Debris-Free (iDF) pump system that allows you to unclog the watercraft's intake in seconds, Sea-Doos latest innovation. Now with just a push of a button, you can stay riding for as long as you desire. As for boat ramps, there is a cluster of hurts on the west side of the lake known as
Lake Onslow Huts.
