BRP has again done amazing work. With their projects being recognised by many of the great industry rating companies around the world. 2022 has been a great year for them and they should be proud, especially regarding their innovation and design. It can be difficult to categorise BRP. BRP describes itself as a company that has been “reimagining the way you access your world since 2003 and beyond.” Yes, fundamentally it is a vehicle manufacturing company, but calling it that is a disservice. What they do is build machines that allow people to enjoy and compete. Design and innovation wise, they take this competitive spirit on too.
Can-Am
Let's take a look at the two Can-Am recipients of the 2022 Red Dot design awards. Red Dot has been one of the most prestigious design competitions since 1955, with many companies, universities, and labs vying for it. First up was the Can-Am Commander XT-P: Expedition Side-by-Side Vehicle. It's a performance beast in its class, boasting a 100 HP Rotax 1000R V-twin engine. Design-wise, it features a 7.6 in. digital display with keypad, LED headlights, a panoramic mirror, painted in colour, a full three-wheel, three-wheel skid plate, and a mudguard. With 13.5 in. of ground clearance and adjustable tilt steering, the Commander has manoeuvrability down to a t.
The Can-Am Ryker Rally is nothing to scoff at. Its modern three-wheel, 3-cylinder engine motorcycle design catches the eye of all onlookers, but this machine doesn't just have “cool factor”, or it would not have received the Red Dot award. Its Rotax 900 ACE in-line 3-cylinder engine is liquid-cooled and has electronic fuel injection for a precise and smooth, yet powerful ride that can go up to 82 HP. The Ryker is an intelligent machine. Its Stability Control System and Traction Control System give it dynamism on straight roads, and its Anti-lock Braking System and Hill Hold Control System keep it safe on those inclines.
Sea-Doo
Out of all the BRP lines, Sea-Doo seriously delivered more than what was expected of them, with two of their products receiving awards for 2022. Sea-Doo’s Fish Pro Trophy also received a Red Dot award for its “tournament level fishing in every aspect, PWC." ingeniously designed in a PWC”. This fishing watercraft is extraordinary for those who wish to have a modern fishing experience, as it boasts a 170 HP engine with Sea-Doo’s iBR system for stability and power. It includes a livewell, an anchoring system, a high tech fish locator, trolling modes, and 2 LinQ front supports for extra customizability. The Trophy really is a prize for any fishing enthusiast, and the jury at Red Dot certainly shared that energy.
Now for the main event, the overachiever of the BRP family in many ways, the 2022 Sea-Doo Switch. This small pontoon boat cannot be described as anything other than a luxurious lounge on water. It can take 5 to 9 passengers, who can all enjoy a day on the water, whether it be for sport or just casual fun. The Switch has three operating modes, Sport for those adrenaline junkies who can make the most of the 170 HP engine, Cruise Control, and an Eco Mode. Its deck is modular, one of the newer innovations at Sea-Doo for extra customisability as well as affordability, and it can sport many LinQ quick attach lines. The Switch is the proud recipient of not just a 2022 Red Dot award but a 2022 Edison Innovation Award, which is an award given to engineers, scientists, business professionals, and academics for creativity, societal impact, and marketplace success. On top of that, the Switch has received one more award, the iF Design Award, which sees itself a public servant since 1953, by letting us know which products coming out of the industry are legit and which are fugazies that are not worth our time.
That’s a wrap … for now!
All in all, 2022 was a big year for BRP, and hopefully, their record of innovation and design will continue into the new year.
